Irregular periods
For the first 1-2 years after the first period, cycles are often irregular. Later, stress, weight change, thyroid problems, PCOS and heavy exercise are common causes.

See a doctor if cycles are shorter than 21 or longer than 35 days, or you miss 3 periods in a row.

Steps

Write the first day of every period for 3 months.

Look for causes: stress, exams, big weight change, new diet, poor sleep.

Wrong: skipping meals or crash dieting to 'fix' it.

Right: regular meals, sleep, and a doctor visit with your notes. Tests may include thyroid and hormone blood tests.
